Baby Trouser Sizing by Age
Baby trouser sizes are labeled by age in months. Newborn size fits babies weighing 5 to 8 pounds and up to 21.5 inches in length. 0-3 months size fits babies weighing 8 to 12 pounds. Carter's 6M size corresponds to 12.5 to 17 pounds in weight and 24 to 27 inches in length. After 12 months, baby clothing sizes switch to 6-month increments, labeled as 12-18 months, 18-24 months, and so on.

How to Measure
For measurements, measure hip circumference at the widest point, waist circumference at the narrowest point around the belly button, and inseam from the crotch to the ankle. For height, have the child stand straight against a wall and measure from the top of the head to the floor.
Brand Sizing Varies
Carter's, Gymboree, The Children's Place and other brands have different size charts. The same 6-month label can mean different actual sizes across brands. Checking the specific brand's size chart before buying is more accurate than just looking at the age label.
